Our friends the Houttemans invited us to Trick-or-Treat in their subdivision this year. We're more of a drive around to 4 or 5 of our family members' houses and score a few pieces of candy crowd. Actual neighborhood Trick-or-Treating? The girls were very excited but a tad overwhelmed.
It took them a few houses (more like 10) before they got the hang of running up to the door to receive candy from complete strangers. Despite the new approach to the holiday festivities, they did remember to use their manners and say "Thank You." On the way home, Kyle told them they would need to write Thank You notes to each of the homeowners they accepted candy from. Not sure what was more fun to watch this year, their faces while running from house to house, or their faces when Kyle mentioned the Thank You notes. (Kidding, of course.)
Thank goodness for Sunday morning's time change…we brought two tired little girls home. (If you ask them, I'm sure they'd say all that running in the rain was worth every last piece of candy!)

Those smiles warm my heart. Scary, but still beautiful.
