Tuesday I chaperoned Josie's last 2nd grade field trip. It's wonderful, yet sad that in five days I'll have a third grader and a fifth grader. Time really needs to slow the heck down! Anyway…I think this might have been my favorite field trip ever. We visited Ludington State Park and learned about the "tiny crawly things" that make the Pier Marquette river their home. Each group of students was given a bucket, a mesh scoop and a card for identifying the creatures they found. My group – Josie, Kenai and Abriana – found many itty bitty shrimp, a snail, a minnow, and to Josie's excitement (which quickly led to distress when it wouldn't leave her finger) a leech. *Ick*
After we learned about the importance of all of these little critters we ate lunch and walked over to Hamlin Lake for some fun in the cold-ish water. (Really, it wasn't at all as cold as I thought it would be!) Josie and Kenai searched for shells while much of the class swam and splashed in the 80˚ sunshine. It was a gorgeous afternoon!
We ended the day together with ice cream at House of Flavors. See…pretty great field trip to get to chaperone! :)
