Spelling Bee

Saturday morning was the county-wide Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee. Eleanor studied the word list every day for weeks. Saturday morning she woke up a little nervous, but we all felt she was prepared – and she was prepared to compete against the one other fourth grader. The rest of the children in her group? Sixth graders!

The first round of words seemed fairly simple – heavy, ivory, paddle, hockey. Ellie was the last competitor. Her word? "Multiplication!" Kyle and I were those parents when we both said "What?" out loud, mouths gaping. Really? Our Peanut made it three rounds, out on the word "limelight." (She says she'll know how to spell that word forever now!)
